Might as well update those who may be interested in this thread as to my progress in WoW. To flesh out a bit, I bought WoW about 2 weeks ago (ish) and created a character (Alliance, Human Paladin– name Gubb) in the Ravencrest realm.

Latest news is I am up to level 20, having abandoned my rather over-organised tactic of trying to stick to a single territory at a time and polish off all the quests there before moving on. Elwyn Forest is done and dusted, and 90% of Westland is done – I still have the Paladin Quest of protecting the Stillwell Farm to finish (might need another level or 2 to do that), I can sort out those undead now I have the right seals, and I have to do the deadmines again. I tagged along with a lvl 60 druid and 2 randoms (one on follow to the druid). He cleared up most everything, but to my credit I did at least pitch in, rather than stand and watch like the other bloke did. However I forgot to pick up Van Cleef’s head (the whole point of going in there) as I died at that point and once I was rezzed, his body was gone. It was a useful run though, I picked up some nice weapons and made about 1.5g which quadrupled my cash and bought me some better weapons training.

I have started quests in Lakewind, and also got my first Horde scalp! I have been tonked a few times by level 60 horde who have come into one of the lower skilled regions purely to gank low-med skilled alliance (which tbh is the most annoying aspect of PvP), but when a lvl 25 shaman started on a group of about 5 lvls 15-19, I think he had bitten off a bit more than he could chew and was overrun fairly quickly.

Been into Ironforge and swept through the easier levels of Kazzer summat (doing this from memory) and have moved up to Loch Modan to start some of the more rewarding (in both Xp and cash) tasks up there.

I have yet to start auctioning, most of the stuff I don’t want goes straight to the vendors, but I hear that even on low value stuff the auctioneer should get a better return so I should really give that a go. Next mission is to find some larger bags, the buggers fill up with stuff too quickly, so I need to replace some of the 6 pocket ones with larger ones.

I think I need to polish off a few more quests in Loch Modan maybe grind up another 1 or 2 levels then back to Westland for the Deadmines and the Stillwell quests.

Give us a wave if you see me!

I'm semi-tempted to start up my level 40 again to cruise around with you, but.. naah, maybe later. No one wants a rogue anyway :(

You can sell some nice stuff in IF, aslong as they're not soulbound. Most of the good stuff you do find, unfortunately are, though.
If you find some nice magic potion that you don't have a real need for, you can probably sell it on IF for a nice sum. Most of them are highly valued as reagents for the tradeskills.

Also, it's worthwhile having ~Link~ running in the background.
You can easily find info on an item that looks interesting, to see if it's useful for you as a reagent, or what you can get for it at a vendor. Saved me lots of space by just dumping seemingly nice items, that wouldn't have yielded anything anyway.

It's also helpful if you're stuck in a quest, or don't know where to find a specific person.

If you stick around in IF, you might see someone wanting to sell good bags.
Some may try to sell them at overprice, but usually tailors are more interested in getting higher skills by making the bags, then by the price of selling them.
I remember seeing many just giving them away for free, first come first serve.

Time for another WoW update (whether you like it or not).

Just got to lvl 29 after completing all the Westfall tasks (including finally getting through the Deadmines successfully and remembering to pick up all the quest items I needed). Also finished the Redridge Mountains quests successfully and managed to do enough leather farming in that area to get myself up to Artisan level for skinning. Now my leatherworking is up to 121, it means I can start to make proper cash on these items. Picked up some nice bargains at the Auction house, but best so far is a Bloodpike I picked up for 1g from a player who just picked it from a MOB drop.

Have got stuck into the Duskwood quests in earnest, which does help rack up the XP, and is especially nice for the Paladin class as we get chance to use ‘exorcism’ and ‘turn undead’. I have turned my attention to the Wetlands now, just to get a few of those quests out of the way while they are still worth a reasonable level of XP. There is also a stockades quest there that I want so I can get all of those done in one Stockades run. I am saving up a few gnomeregan (sic?) ones too before I go there.

I will be looking to migrate my character out of Ravencrest when the opportunity arises because the server performance is pretty poor, I will see how the latest patches and the server relocation goes, but I would rather have shorter queuing times than a full server tbh

Apparently Blizzard are considering allowing players to pay for migrations, which would allow the player to specify the server they wish to migrate to. If this becomes a reality I will look at doing that. The one downside of trying to get a 2xWoW guild going would be the fact that we all have established characters on other servers, it would be nice to get them all on one server without having to grind up from the beginning again.

Aargh, damn hackers made my last update disappear. Since I have done a couple of things over the weekend that might be worth mentioning I might as well write it again to keep my regular readers in the picture.

As things stand I have just levelled and am now lvl 35. About 50% of that is through a couple of long quest chains and the other half is purely from grinding Worgen in Duskwood. I have found a little place where you can start at one end, get a chest, go into a mine, clear that, come back out and take a couple more and the chest reappears – yay!. This has yielded many greens, and a nice blue 2H axe with great DPS. It has also given me loadsa leather so I have been able to level up my leatherworking (with the help of a few splurges at the auction house). I managed to get up to the magic 200 at leatherworking and snuck into the Aerie Peak in the Eastern Plaguelands (I think) to train as Artisan (which cost me a whopping 5g ffs – the same skill level in skinning only cost me 1g). Got myself lots of new ‘recipes’ from Darnassus and should be on my way up towards 250 very soon. I plan to farm in Duskwood for the whole of this lvl to build up my cash (which has now all gone lol) and to get enough leather to enable me to start learning the good recipes (I have already been raiding the AH for nice recipes in preparation and have a full set of scorpid armour recipes and some Voodoo ones too).

More or less finished the Wetlands quests for now, so I think I should move into the Arathi Highlands after I get level 36 as this seems to be the natural zone to progress to. Before that though I must get the Gnomeregan quests done tbh, they are all stacked up and ready, but its finding the time tbh. If anything I tend to leave instances until they go green, as its so hard to find a decent group to go through them with (i.e. with people who understand the importance of pulling MOBs properly and keeping the aggro away from healers) and tbh I would rather use the extra DPS/Armour to tank with a decent healer looking after me. I might save GR for a little diversion when I need a break from farming lol.

That’s all for now. This might be my last week in Ravencrest – it seems that Blizzard are opening a migration to an as yet unspecified realm as I think it’s a good opportunity to move over now and spend more time playing and less time queuing. It might also be an opportunity to start a Guild (see my reply in the 2x Guild thread). Time will tell. Now where is that mangy old worgen?

Time for another foray into my world of WoW (which should pep up an otherwise not too interesting public forum – come on 2x’ers sort it out).

I have now moved my char to ‘Hakkar’ realm from Ravencrest and have noticed a big improvement in performance tbh. One ‘problem’ is that Hakkar seems to be populated by Italians who clearly don’t understand that it is an English speaking realm. Given that Ravencrest had a heavy Scandinavian/Nordic population who managed to exist without feeling the need to pepper the general/trade/lfg channels with their native language, I don’t understand why the Italians cannot manage this. It only bothers me because it means that I cannot offer help or join groups that are ‘broadcast’ in Italian (and because I wouldn’t go onto a German Speaking Realm and just speak English). Hopefully the next realm that migrates in should improve the balance (though tbh if the demand exists for an Italian speaking realm, I don’t understand why Blizzard just don’t create one for them).

Anyways Hakkar is quiet at the moment and seems to be populated mostly by lvl 60’s (I think they stop you rolling a char when migration is happening so that should change soon). This means you can get away with straying closer to Horde territories and cities (though frankly I haven’t bothered too much with that just yet).

Since my last update I moved into Hillsbrad and the Arathi Highlands, completing a few of the elite quests there and starting to build up a nice stack of gold. I managed to pick up a decent 2H mace (Viscous Hammer) for 4g off a party member who found it. Its worth its weight in gold tbh, its even better than Verigan’s Fist which is a v good 2H mace in its own right. Still not as good a bargain as my Polearm purchase (still got that and bought it about lvl 25 I think) but it packs enough of a punch to save a few rounds of melee.

Once I had sorted all the quests that I could solo in those areas I think I was around lvl 38 and scratching around for something to do. Didn’t seem to be as many decent farming areas to get leather (I need thick leather at this stage – skinning is now 268, leatherworking 242) so I scratched around for a couple more quests and got to lvl 39 finishing them off. I had a look at a couple of sites to suggest areas appropriate to my level and chose Stranglethorn Vale. This area seems to have a wider lvl range than any of the others I have visited, so its meant keeping my head down a bit instead of the Leeroy Jenkins approach. After getting a good stack of quests from Booty Bay I managed to start piling on the XP. I finished off the last 25% of the needed XP last night, farming the lvl 40-41 raptors (so at least I got some leather out of it as well).

So there we have it, I am at level 40! It is especially nice to get to this level as I now have my own horse (which no feeding/watering or stabling as it’s a Summoned Charger). I really needed this in Duskwood tbh where the quest givers are at one end of the map and the targets at the other, but hey-ho at least I have it now. I also get to wear plate mail (which I have been quietly stocking up on in the last few lvls) so now my armour increased over 100% in one fell swoop. All this AND the next Seal of Command / Hammer of Justice spells – which I tend to use heavily – so some heavy duty arse kicking will follow shortly! I think I must have blown around 8-10g on training-up on all the lvl 40 skills, but they are worth it tbh.

I still have a good lot of quests to get through in Stranglethorn Vale, I also still have to get myself through Gnomeregan. The lack of players around my level make it tricky to get any group together tbh, and even at lvl 40 I don’t think its practically solo-able so I will have to wait a bit to clear those quests. I want to have a crack at the Scarlet Monastery while its worth good XP tbh, so I could use the space in my quest log. Failing that its off across to Desolace which I understand has a few decent quests for my level.

I have to get my skills up too – leatherworking is starting to pay out some good money, clearing a couple of gold each time on a few easy to make items so the sooner I can get that up towards 300 the better tbh. Fishing is up to 120 now, that’s the one I need to get improved – so I can fish the ‘floating wreckage’ and get some decent fish/item drops.

So that’s where we are now – hopefully I can get through the 40’s reasonably quickly – I think the abilities that turning lvl 40 has given will allow me to step up more than a few levels in terms of the MOBs I can handle – so that means XP should come quicker. More Later!
